Lot 13

(1926-1967) American Astronaut, one of the original Mercury Seven. The second American to fly in space. Rare vintage signed colour 8 x 10 photograph, the composite image showing the progress of the parachute landing and recovery of Sigma 7 in four stages. Signed ('Gus Grissom') in blue ink to a clear area of the upper left image. Autographs of Grissom are rare in any form as a result of his tragically early death at the age of 40 in the Apollo I fire. One very small, slight scuff to one of the images and some extremely minor corner creasing, otherwise VG Sigma 7 was the spacecraft in which Grissom's fellow Mercury Seven astronaut Wally Schirra orbited the Earth six times as part of NASA's Mercury-Atlas 8 mission on 3rd October 1962. ]

Estimate: £200 - 300
