(1923-1998) American Astronaut, the first American to travel in space as one of the original NASA Mercury Seven. Commander of the Apollo XIV mission and the fifth man to walk on the Moon. Signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph, the NASA image depicting the Mercury Capsule 7 (Freedom 7) being raised into a gantry to be mated with the Redstone Booster on 29th April 1961 ahead of Shepard's Mercury-Redstone 3 spaceflight. Signed by Shepard in bold silver ink to the image, with a very slight extremely minor smudge to the inscription. VG Shepard became the second person and the first American to travel in Space in Freedom 7 during the Mercury-Redstone 3 spaceflight on 5th May 1961. It represented the United States first human spaceflight and the first manned flight of Project Mercury. ]
