The winner’s prize for a private wager made on 4 January 1917 between the then managing director of Harrods, Richard Woodman Burbidge and Harry Gordon Selfridge the owner of Selfridges is to auction with Christies. The prize was this-a George V silver cigar box model of Harrods which was commissioned by Burbidge at the cost of £400 which had to be paid by the loser of the bet, Mr Selfridge. A great quirky silver item with an amazing provenance. £70,000 – £100,000.
