The Earl of Westmorland`s Coronation Robes and Coronet worn during the lavish coronation of King George IV have come up for auction at Dominic Winter. The coronation was the most expensive ever held in Britain, costing around £9.5 Million in today's money. The costumes were some of the most extravagant features of the coronation as King George, with his personal interest in costume, assisted with the design of some of the outfits. These robes were worn by the 10th Earl of Westmorland, Tory politician John Fane and are estimated at £8,000 - £12,000.
