Lot 6: Frederick the Great Signed Letter

King of Prussia (born 1712) from 1740 until his death in 1786. His political prowess and enlightened attitudes toward religion, learning, and the humanities earned him the sobriquet 'Frederick the Great.' LS in French, signed “Frederic,” one page, 7.25 x 9, June 22, 1769. In part (translated): "The attention you were kind enough to send me your essay on the diverse leanings of humans has given me a great pleasure. I want to confirm by this letter my thanks and congratulate you on the approbation that your work has obtained from the Academy of Sciences." In very good to fine condition, with light wrinkling, and separations to intersecting folds repaired with tape on the reverse.
