Lot 431: Victoria (1819-1901) Queen Of The United Kingdom Great Britain & Ireland 1837-1901 & Albert (1819-1861) Prince Consort Of The United Kingdom, Husband Of Queen Victoria. A Fine A.L.S. By Both Queen Victoria (Signed With Her Initials V R) And Prince Albert ('Albert'), Seven Pages, 8Vo, Windsor Castle, 23Rd January 1844, To Count Alphonse Mensdorff Pouilly ('My Dear Alphonse'), On Attractive Stationery Featuring A Colour Printed Royal Coat Of Arms To The Upper Left Corner, In German. Queen Victoria Commences The Letter By Thanking Her Cousin For His Letter, And Continues To Wish Him Happiness On His Birthday, Commenting 'May You Remain As Happy As You Are Now With Your Dear Wife. Who Can Understand Your Happiness Better Than Both Of Us Who Live Together So Infinitely Happy'. The Queen Further States 'I Received A Long Letter From Alexander A Few Days Ago. He Seems To Be So Alone In His Garrison. He Very Much Regrets, As We Do, That Dear Arthur Could Not Follow Your Example. I Heard That He Had Seen The Young Lady Again' And Also Informs The Count 'I Have Had All Your Portraits Lithographed And They Turned Out Very Nicely. I Will Soon Send 2 Dozen Of Each Of Them For You All' And Concludes 'Now Could I Ask You To Order Me 3 Dozen Pairs Of Gloves, But Only Dark Colours'. Prince Albert Concludes The Letter By Writing, Also In German, 'I Also Have To Add A Few Lines In Order To Express My Good Wishes For Your Birthday. You Know That They Are Always Truly Heartfelt. I Also Thank You For Your Last Kind Letter And Remain As Always Your Dear Nephew'. With Blank Integral Leaf. Autograph Letters Written And Signed By Both Queen Victoria And Prince Albert Rarely Appear On The Market, And The Present Letter Is A Particularly Charming Example With Good Association. Some Very Light Creasing And A Couple Of Extremely Minor, Small Neat Splits To The Edges Of A Couple Of Folds, Otherwise About Vg Count Alphonse Mensdorff Pouilly (1810-1894) Austrian Nobleman & Cousin Of Queen Victoria.
