Lot 421

(1948- ) Prince of Wales. A.L.S., Charles, two pages, 4to, Sandringham, Norfolk, 4th January 1985, to Lady Salisbury (‘Dearest Mollie’). The Prince announces ‘I am feeling rather shame-faced because you got your thank you letter in before mine!’ and continues to add that he was very touched that she had put together a ‘splendid collection of spices and smells, with which I will be able to concoct some powerful mixtures!’. The Prince further states that it would be marvellous to meet his correspondent on 17th January (‘I shall do my best to arrive early enough for some gardening!’) and concludes by reporting ‘No news yet of the Chesil beach saga. It has probably posed a real dilemma for the Crown handy people!’.
