Lot 337: King of Great Britain and Ireland (1765–1837) from 1830 to 1837, he earned the sobriquet 'Sailor King' for his youthful service in the Royal Navy. Partly-printed vellum DS, one page, 15.75 x 11.75, August 5, 1833. King William appoints William George Hamley as "a Second Lieutenant with temporary rank in Our Corps of Royal Engineers." Signed at the top by William and countersigned at the conclusion by Master-General of the Ordnance James Kempt. The blue seal remains affixed to the left side. Three vertical storage folds (one passing through a single letter of the signature), a paperclip mark and impression touching the first letter of the signature, and moderate scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition.
