Lot 277: Royal Menu - Sultan of Turkey. A menu for the reception of His Imperial Majesty the Sultan Abdul Azez Kahn, at the Guildhall, on Thursday 18th July 1867, by the Corporation of the City of London, printed Maclure, Macdonald & Macgregor, printed in green and gilt on light green card within decorative border including crests upper left and right, 20 x 13cm, together with the original colour lithographic invitation with manuscript insertion to admit Mrs F. Dadswell, vignettes of Istanbul and London, plus crests and decorations, printed on card with perforated edge to left margin, 26.5 x 37cm. Abdul Azez reigned from 1861 to 1876. He was the first Ottoman sultan to visit western Europe, visiting Britain in 1867. Mrs Dadswell is believed to have been the wife of Frederick, resident of Bishopsgate, and Master of the Loriners' Company.
