English Royalty in Glass: royal commemorative glass
Royal commemorative glass became really popular in the 17th century, and was designed to celebrate the marriage of Charles II. I doubt it's a coincidence that the royal commemorative glasses appeared just as Charles II superseded the puritanical (and largely abstemious) Oliver Cromwell to the throne - definitely something to drink to.
