NEW ZEALAND 1927-33 2s light blue 'Admiral' Official, SGO112
New Zealand 1927-33 2s light blue 'King George V Admiral' Official, SGO112.
A fine mint fresh example with large part original gum.
H L Richardson was asked to prepare a design similar to the 2s and 3s stamps that depicted King George V as an Admiral of the Fleet. It was recommended, however, that as General Sir Charles Fergusson - a distinguished soldier, had succeeded Viscount Jellicoe as Governor-General, it would be appropriate to depict the King in the uniform of a Field Marshall. The design was engraved by Waterlow and Sons, London. The stamp was in production from 1926-1935. The stamps were overprinted 'Official' for use on letters, packets and telegrams sent on the public service.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £95.
