MOROCCO AGENCIES 1899 20c olive-green variety, SG11c
Morocco Agencies 1899 20c olive-green, type 2 De La Rue overprint, right marginal horizontal pair, left stamp showing variety Hyphen between 'nc' (right pane, R3/5), SG11c.
A very fine unmounted mint horizontal pair with full original gum. A few shortish perforations, which doesn't diminish what is an exceptionally fine piece.
The variety is scarce as only 507 maximum possible with a high degree of postal usage. Particularly rare as a positional pair.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £80+.
Following a decision to identify the exact revenue derived from the Morocco postal service, separate stamps were needed for the Morocco Agencies. This requirement further became necessary because of a Revision of Fees Ordinance in Gibraltar, which required all fees to be collected in Sterling, while the Morocco Agencies continued to use Spanish currency. This led to the introduction of Gibraltar stamps with 'Morocco Agencies' overprints.
