1953 John F Kennedy autograph letter
- A 1953 John F Kennedy typed and signed letter as US senator, discussing his wedding with Jacqui and honeymoon
John F. Kennedy was the President of the United States of America from 1961 until 1963 when he was tragically assassinated in Dallas, Texas. A charismatic leader, he is one of the most beloved presidents in US history, and his memorabilia is among the best selling of any former president.
Kennedy wrote the undated letter almost certainly in October 1953, following his marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953.
A single page on imprinted United States Senate stationary. 15.5cm by 20.5cm.
Kennedy writes to the 'Honorable Prince Daniel', a Texas senator who would go on to become governor of Texas from 1957 to 1963.
The letter reads in full: 'Dear Prince, Your letter of congratulations and best wishes upon the occasion of our recent wedding was appreciated very much. We have just returned from an extended wedding trip and this is my first opportunity to thank you. Thanks again for your letter and the pleasure it bought us'.
Signed at the close 'John' in dark ink. Kennedy has also written 'Many Thanks'.
Kennedy 'thank you' letters relating to his wedding are hugely scarce and highly desirable. We know of only one other example.
It is also one of the earliest "Senator Kennedy" letters we've seen. Kennedy took office on January 3, 1953.
