Vintage St Moritz Posters
Vintage St Moritz Posters are highly collectible original posters advertising the Swiss ski resort St. Moritz.
Brief history and description
Although St. Moritz posters were once used as promotional tools to encourage foreigners to travel to St. Moritz, a popular ski and health resort in Switzerland, today they are considered to be important historical documents for the St. Moritz tourism industry.
St. Moritz posters were often placed in a variety of different shops, restaurants and boutiques in countries as far away as America, Australia, New Zealand, France and India.
Some of the many famous artists who were commissioned to design St. Moritz's tourism posters include Walter Herdeg, Alois Carigiet, Charles Kuhn, Hugo d’Alesi, Wilhelm Burger, Emil Cardinaux, Karl Bickel and Eduard Stiefel.
Guide for collectors
St. Moritz posters which were produced before World War II are considered to be the most rare and valuable among collectors, while Emil Cardinaux's "Palace Hotel"/St. Moritz poster (circa 1920) is considered to be the most valuable.
Restoration of a St. Moritz poster is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring a St. Moritz poster may decrease its value.
