1907 Automobile and Cycle Show Poster
The official poster for the 1907 Milan Automobile and Cycle show is in all probability one of the most poignant and interesting car show adverts that has ever been created. These days if you want to advertise a car show you'll just have a picture of an E-Type Jaguar at a 3/4 angle taken against a white backdrop but this has a lot more to it.
The picture actually depicts the 'old gods' stuggling to keep up with an historic car (the new gods) to the extent that the winged god has had to remove his wreath for fear of it falling off. This for a race against a car from 1907 which would have had a top speed of approximately 20 mph.
The wonderful and rare poster has only come up for auction four times since the '80s and this one has had some repair work done on it, ensuring it is in prime condition. Estimated value from Swann Galleries is $25,000-30,000.
