Lot 99: ALS signed "M. Van Buren," four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 8.5, April 1, 1854. Letter to his son, Martin Van Buren, Jr., in which he reflects on several topics, including his travels through Italy during the "approaching Holy Week," the ongoing Crimean War, noting that "it is becoming quite clear that Russia will stand…alone," and the repeal of the Missouri Compromise. Van Buren adds his son's name to the left of his own signature. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, two tears to right edge (affecting a word of text), blue wax seal remnants to first page, scattered spots of toning, and the signature a shade light.
