Signed In Blue Ink To The Half Title Page, 'I Hope That This Book Will Interest A Former Skating Friend, Templewood' And Dated 1946 In His Hand. Accompanied By The Dustjacket (Some Tears To The Edges). Some Light Overall Age Wear And The Binding A Little Loose. Together With A T.L.S., Templewood, With Holograph Salutation, One Page, Cromer, Norfolk, 12Th August 1946, To Edgar S. Simon ('My Dear Friend'), On The Blind Embossed Stationery Of The House Of Lords. Hoare States That He Is Pleased To Be Reminded Of 'Our Old Skating Friendship And To Hear That You Are Interested In My Book', Further Adding That He Will Be At The Dorchester Hotel In London In Mid-September And Remarking 'Perhaps You Could Then Send The Book To Me And I Could Autograph It'. Also Including An A.L.S., Templewood, One Page, 8Vo, N.P., 22Nd December (1946), To [Edgar S.] Simon, On The Blind Embossed Stationery Of The House Of Lords. Hoare Thanks His Correspondent For Their Letter And Remarks 'I Am Glad That You Liked My Article And That You Approve Of My Views'. Generally Vg, 3 In The Demanding And Critical Role As British Ambassador To Spain During World War Ii, Hoare Sought To Encourage Francisco Franco, Whom He Loathed, To Keep Spain Out Of The War, In Which He Was Successful. The Present Signed Book Provides An Excellent Insight Into This Period Of Hoare'S Career When His His Primary Challenge Was To Dissuade Franco From His Preferred Drift To The Axis Powers, While Preventing The Allies From Reacting With Undue Haste To Repeated Spanish Provocations.
