Lot 146: TLS signed "Ike," one page, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, October 31, 1961. Letter to his former Chief of Staff, Major General Wilton B. Persons, in part: "The clipping you enclosed in your letter was the first news I had had of the invitation to enter my cattle in the South Florida Fair and Exposition Live Stock Show...at the Time of the Show I expect to be in California....some time ago I wrote Tom Gates as persuasive letter as I could urging him to run for the Governorship of Pennsylvania. In reply I got a flat 'No.' Next Monday a group of political leaders of Pennsylvania are coming to my office to discuss the various candidates for Governor and Senator, but I have no great hope that anything with change Tom's mind." In fine condition, with a light rusty paperclip mark to top edge, trivial creasing to upper corners, and a few light spots of soiling. RR Auction's Fine Autographs & Artifacts Friday, 23rd October 2015 Estimate: $200-400
