Lot 1171: Perceval Spencer: (1762-1812) British Prime Minister 1809-12. A.L.S., Sp Perceval, Two Pages, 4To (Slightly Irregularly Trimmed), Downing Street, 26Th February 1812, To George Gunning. Perceval States That In A Few Days He Thinks He Shall Have The Opportunity Of Introducing His Correspondent To A Place Where He May Be Elected To Parliament With No More Expense Than A Dinner To A Small Number Of Constituents, Continuing To Comment On The Present State Of The Government And The Opposition. In A Postscript Perceval Writes 'I Beg You Will Not Mention This To Anyone But Sr. Rob. & Genl. & Mrs. Ross, And To Them With The Decree Of Secrecy, For As There Are Other Persons Who Might Expect The Offer, It May Be As Well, That It Should Not Generally Be Known….' With A Portion Of The Envelope Panel, Hand Addressed By Perceval And Marked Private In His Hand, Neatly Mounted To A Clear Area At The Base Of The Second Page. Some Traces Of Former Mounting To The Edges Of The First Page, Slightly Obscuring Some Words Of The Text. G. Sir George Gunning (1763-1823) 2Nd Baronet. Member Of Parliament For Wigan.
