Lot 109: ALS signed "Grover Cleveland," one page both sides, 4 x 6.5, March 8, 1884. In full: "I hardly know how to comply with your request that I write you a letter expressing some opinion or sentiment. Men in public life have to express so many opinions and sentiments that they are not apt to do so when they can avoid it. I suppose the truth is, the most you came for is my autograph—So here it is." Double-matted and framed with a portrait and nameplate affixed to the glass to an overall size of 18.5 x 16, with a window on the reverse for viewing the first portion of the letter. In fine condition, with show-through from writing to opposing sides.
