Over 250 items from the estate of Churchill's last surviving daughter Mary Soames have sold for three times more than expected at Sothebys. The items, which included paintings, silverware and other personal effects, managed more than £15 million at the sale in London. A new world record was set for one of the war-time prime ministers paintings 'The Goldfish at Chartwell' which ended with a high bid of £1.8 million. A red box which Churchill used while he was colonies secretary in the 1920s was also a top seller at the sale with a hammer price of £158,000, over 25 times the pre-sale estimate of £5,000-7,000.
