Lot 397: South Africa. A group of 6 well-presented photograph albums relating to South Africa (and Great Britain), circa 1947-56, including numerous views, some mining scenes, recreational activities, etc., all well photographed and neatly presented with detailed white china ink captions in block capitals throughout, the earliest album with postcard-size photographs, the remainder mostly approximately 15 x 20cm and mounted two to a page, approximately 1,500 photographs in total, the first volume contemporary plain cloth, a little frayed, folio, the remaining volumes contemporary red leather with gilt-titled upper covers, dates and initials of the compiler S.J.M., rubbed, large folio It would appear that S.J.M. spent time working and touring while based in South Africa over a number of years.
