Place Published: San Francisco. Date Published: 1938. Description: Gelatin silver print photograph, approximately 24x19 cm (9½x7½") mounted to stiff card backing. Matted, overall 51x41 cm (20x16"). Signed by the photographer at the lower right. A view of the Pacific Telephone Building at 140 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco's SOMA district. When opened in 1925 the building was San Francisco's first significant skyscraper development and headquarters of the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. Today the building's primary tenant is internet giant Yelp. Sonya Noskowiak (1900-1975) was an American photographer and member of the famous San Francisco photography collective Group f/64 that included Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. In 1936, she was one of eight photographers selected for the California region of the Federal Arts Project. Condition: Light surface wear to print; old mounting a bit soiled; near fine.
