Lot 137: China. An album of 260 gelatin silver print photographs, early 1900s, the first 12 being copy prints of 19th-century photos, the remainder being private snapshots mostly of Chinese views, scenes, mainly in Peking and Shanghai, people, plus some shipping and maritime, neatly mounted four to a page and mounted back to back throughout, 10 x 7cm, all numbered but uncaptioned on the mounts, upper hinge broken, contemporary cloth, rubbed and soiled, together with a second album containing 48 similar photographs of China, mounted two to a page and on a concertina-style album with neat ink captions to mounts beneath, including Chinese funeral, Dowager Empress's funeral, Chinese going to the races Shanghai, Shops in Peking, British legation Peking, Operating Theatre Military Hospital Peking, Haung T'sun Railway Station, Firing 5' Howitzer near the Camp, Mackenzie's Menagerie under cover, The relieved draft returning to Hong Kong, etc., 7.5 x 10cm, contemporary lacquered boards with pictorial upper cover, rubbed, oblong 8vo (2) Dominic Winter's Printed Books and Maps Auction October 2015 Wednesday, 14th October 2015 Estimate: £300-400
