Kremlin of Tobolsk

Kremlin of Tobolsk is a photographic artwork produced in 2009 by Dmitry Medvedev, the current president of the Russian Federation. The black-and-white work is an aerial view of the Tobolsk Kremlin in Siberia and its environs. The photograph measures 69 x 96cm.

It is the third most expensive photographic work ever sold.

Charity sale

This photograph fetched $1.7 million at a charity auction in St Petersburg in January 2010, making it currently the third-most expensive photographic work ever sold.

The piece was bought by Mikhail Zingarevich, a board member of Ilim Group, the company where Medvedev once worked as a lawyer. Mr Zingarevich said he would hang the picture in his office.[citation needed]

Proceeds from the auction helped purchase furniture for World War II veterans, a new kitchen for an alcohol rehabilitation centre and equipment for a children's hospital.

The sale surpassed the $1.1 million paid in 2009 for a painting by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin.
