Abraham Lincoln photograph negative sells for $35,250 22 Jun 2012, 11:30 GMT+01
A photograph negative of Abraham Lincoln, though to be his last ever sitting for a photograph, has sold at Cowan's Auctions June 21st sale for £35,250.
The wet-plate collodian glass negative is thought to have been captured in February, two months before Lincoln's assassination in 1865. It shows him sitting and thoughtful, the ghost of a smile on his face.
