Vintage Fender Musicmaster Guitars were a popular style of guitar produced by Fender during the 1950s and 60s.

Brief history and description

The Fender Musicmaster electric guitar was the first Fender 3/4 scale guitar to feature one single pick-up.

The Fender Musicmaster was also the first style of guitar in Fender's student guitar series, and was incredibly popular among novice guitar players due to its simplicity.

Earlier models of the Musicmaster which were produced between 1956 and 1959 featured a truss rod skunk stripe of walnut along the back of the guitar neck, while Musicmaster guitars which were produced between 1965 and 1966 typically featured slab fingerboards made of Indian rosewood.

A 24-inch scale version of the Musicmaster was introduced in 1964 (titled the Musicmaster II), and was made available in colours such as red, white and blue.

Guide for collectors

A white and cream-coloured "Desert Sand" Fender Musicmaster guitar is considered to be the most valuable among collectors, but not necessarily the most rare.

Restoration of a vintage Fender Musicmaster guitar is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring the guitar may decrease its value.
