1) John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ piano - $2.1 million

The Steinway Model-Z piano used by John Lennon to write ‘Imagine’ was sold at an auction house owned by Mick Fleetwood in October 2000. It was bought by Wham! star, George Michael, for $2.1 million.

2) Marilyn Monroe’s baby grand piano - $662,500

A baby grand piano that was owned by Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe was bought by singer Mariah Carey in October 1999. The piano sold for $662,500 at a Christie’s auction.

3) Trident Studios piano - £200,000

A piano owned by Trident studios was sold for £200,000 in September 2008 at a Fame Bureau auction. The piano was used by The Beatles to record Hey Jude. The piano was also used by Elton John, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury.

4) Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s songwriting piano - $164,500

A piano used by Elton John and Bernie Taupin to write Elton’s first five albums was sold by Heritage Auction Galleries in April 2004. The piano, which was used to write ‘Your Song’, sold for $164,500.

5) Piano owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono - $41,825

A piano owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono was sold by Heritage Auction Galleries for $41,825 in 2005. The piano was from Lennon and Ono’s secret hideaway in Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island.
