Martin Guitar Museum buy Joan Baez's guitar
This is a nice story - the Martin Guitar Museum in Pennsylvania just bought this 1880 C.F. Martin 0-40 guitar at auction for $12,500.
Not only is it more than 130 years old, but it was played extensively by folk legend Joan Baez during the 1960s, and toured the world with her.
Apparently she borrowed it from a friend and fell in love with the sound, then played in onstage everywhere she went from 1966 through to 1968.
The guitar was sold with a letter of authenticity from Baez herself, which said "From the very first moment I played it, this beautifully crafted guitar impressed me with its stunning tone and resonance. I loved my time with this gorgeous instrument, and I am sure that it will bring you many years of similar joy."
I think it's great that this guitar survived a whole bunch of adventures around the world then came back home again. Just think of all the songs people have played on it! There's definietly some magic in these old guitars.
