Jimi Hendrix '64 Stratocaster at auction
A 1964 Fender Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix gave to his brother Leon Hendrix is up for auction at Ted Owen & Co, where it's been given a high estimate of £600,000. Hendrix Strats are some of the most highly sought after guitars in the world, but Jimi did play a fair few of them in his time so it's hard to keep track of which one is which!
This one was given by Jimi to his brother Leon after a Seattle concert in 1968 and on that occasion it was being kept as a backup guitar in case Jimi felt the need to set the other two he had on fire. It has been played by Leon ever since and shows signs of significant usage, as these early Stratocasters seem to.
Without any hard evidence that Jimi played this particular strat (he seemed to like sunburst finishes with rosewood fingerboards) it might not sell for the highest predicted price, but I can guarantee that you won't find a cooler vintage Fender with this kind of backstory anywhere else on the market for a while to come.
