Rare, hand-crafted guitars are currently up for grabs in a special Heritage Auctions online charity sale.

The auction has been organized by the Austin Disaster Relief Network, to raise funds for the victims of the traumatic floods which swept through Austin and the Texas Hill Country earlier this year.

“Austin is Texas’ music capital and what better way to draw attention to these crucial recovery programs than a special charity auction offering collectible guitars,” said Kristen Schultz, Director of Charity Auctions at Heritage Auctions.

The sale is the brainchild of Dan Chenault, founder of the Dallas-based instrument maker's club Guys Building Guitars.

“I was at a guitar show selling raffle tickets for a guitar to benefit another cause and Lance Keltner (an Austin based musician) approached me and asked me if I could do something to help the flood victims in Wimberley and Austin," said Chenault.

"I knew I had to do something, so I put the call out to other guitar builders and my employer Rockler, who donated some of the guitar kits."

The result is the Guys Building Guitars Charity Auction Benefiting Austin Disaster Relief Network. The Austin Disaster Relief Network is a not for profit organization comprised of churches, ministries and businesses within the Christian community of Greater Austin, which is currently helping those affected by the floods to rebuild their homes and businesses.

The sale offers a great selection of unique hand-crafted guitars, with many featuring a Texas theme such as 'Texas Rose', a Stratocaster copy featuring a yellow rose, and the Rustic Texas Flag Stratocaster.

Other designs include a Telecaster Copy Seattle Seahawks Guitar and a “Keep Portland Weird! Stratocaster Copy, along with further instruments by makers across the U.S.

The instruments will be offered across three charity auctions, the first of which is currently open for bidding and runs until October 20.
