AMI Continental 2
AMI Continental 2 is a vintage jukebox manufactured in 1962 by AMI (Automatic Musical Instruments company). It was the successor of the 1961 model, AMI Continental. The Continental 2 was the last jukebox manufactured by AMi before they were taken over by Rowe.
The jukebox can play up to 200 selections from either 45rpm or 33rpm records.
The Ami Continental 2 is arguably most well known for being the jukebox model owned by film director, Quentin Tarantino and the jukebox appears in several of his films.
In Death Proof (2007) the Continental 2 is playing in Texas Chili Parlor where one character receives a lap dance from another character.
Another Continental 2 appears in the film Ghost (1990) where it plays the Righteous Brothers’ Unchained Melody in the famous pottery scene. Although the jukebox is only seen from above, the red colouring clearly indicated that it is a Continental 2.
A Continental 2 also appears in Wayne’s World (1992) during a daydream of Garth’s whereby he makes an awkward pass at a woman to the tune of Foxy Lady which is playing out of the jukebox.
A Continental 2 was sold on November 3 2007 by Rich Penn Auctions for $4,750.
Another Continental 2 was sold on October 9 2010 by Victorian Casino Antiques for $3,250.
