Robbie Williams charity auction tops £145,000 at Bonhams
An auction of memorabilia from the collection of pop star Robbie Williams has raised more than £145,000 for charity at Bonhams.
The sale, entitled Doing it for the Kids, was held to raise funds for The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice in Williams' home city of Stoke. In total the items, spanning his career to date from a member of Take That to a solo performer, sold for £145,376.
“It’s been a privilege to auction some of my most prized possessions from my life and career to raise money for The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice," said Williams, following the auction. "The charity does such great work and I know they will put the money to very good use for the children and families they care for. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart!”
The highest price of the auction went to a set of handwritten lyrics for Williams' 2013 Go Gentle. Valued at £1,500-£2,000, the lyrics ended the sale on a high with a price of £31,250.
Further notable lots included an MTV Movie award given to Take That in 1994 which sold, following an intense bidding war, for £10,625; and a set of handwritten lyrics for his 2000 duet with Kylie Minogue, 'Kids', which was auctioned off by Williams himself for £6,875.
“What an exciting sale. The room was completely full, we’ve had bids coming in from across the globe, and we’re delighted that Robbie joined us to auction a lot, bring down the gavel, and ramp up the bidding for such a worthy cause.”
"It's been an incredibly exciting day and we're delighted with the money raised which will go directly to providing care and support to children with shortened life expectancy and their families," added Melanie Williams, Head of High Value Partnerships at The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice. "We'd like to say a huge thank you to Robbie for his generosity and also to Bonhams and to everyone that supported the auction."
