A magnificently soundtracked documentary showcases Muscle Shoals, the town in segregationist Alabama that became an oasis of mixed skin colours and musical styles, and a wellspring of hit records for the likes of Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Percy "When a Man Loves a Woman" Sledge, the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Dylan and Etta James. A town with a population of 8,000 that punched way way above its' weight!

Hard to believe but yet it's true. Must have been their proximity to New Orleans that put the funk into their playing.
