Matt Bellamy's smashed guitar raises 50K for charity
A guitar owned, used, signed and smashed by Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has raised £50,000 for the Devon based charity The Helen Foundation.
The guitar was used by Bellamy on their most recent 'Drones' world tour where it was smashed onstage at the 02 arena in London on Friday 15 April. The guitar is one of many to have been smashed by Bellamy-who owns the Guinness World Record for smashing the most guitars on a single tour.
It was a rare chance for Muse fans to own one of Bellamy's guitars which are custom made for the front-man by Manson Guitar Works.
Alex Kirk of The Helen Foundation has said he has been overwhelmed of the support the auction received: ''MUSE have been such staunch supporters of the Foundation since its creation in 2006 and the successful auction is one of the highlights of our special 10th anniversary year. Funds raised by the auction will now help us establish a small endowment for the charity. This will assist in securing the future of The Helen Foundation as it enters its second decade, in a climate of increasing hardship for small charities.''
