Lot 7452: Uncommon Sire Records double-sided 12? vinyl test pressing of The Ramones' 1976 self-titled debut album. White Columbia Record labels on both sides of the disc are blank, and the original paper sleeve is notated "SASD 7520, Advance Copies." An 8.5 x 11 "Sire Album Label Copy" sheet affixed to the record sleeve, dated April 5, 1976, bears track listings, running times, and copyright information. In fine condition, with some light soiling and surface rubbing to album covers. Test pressings are the first vinyl discs made at the factory and are produced in small numbers in order to evaluate disc and sound quality prior to mass production. Predating the original release date of April 23, 1976, by three weeks, this is a highly desirable and uncommon test pressing of an album that helped popularize the punk rock genre. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Chris Lamy, close friend of The Ramones and guitarist of The Jabbers, formerly GG Allin & The Jabbers. The Chris Lamy Collection. RR Auction's Marvels of Modern Music Auction 457 Thursday, 23rd July 2015 Estimate: $400-600
