Lot 4009: Beatles 1967 Signed Autograph Album
17th August 2017
Vintage circa 1967 autograph album, 4 x 4.75, signed inside in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, who has signed again on an earlier page in pencil. The book features a pencil signature of Beatles road manager and assistant Mal Evans, as well as a copy of the signed Beatles page affixed near the front, which bears a collector's ink notation: "Sept 67, West Malling Airfield, 'Magical Mystery Tour.'" The original recipient has also noted two car number plates on the first page, "JS270" and "FGO 5866," the second being a car Ringo used. In fine condition, with covers showing ownership wear, though signed page remains crisp and bold. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, as well as a copy of a provenance letter from the original recipient, in part: "I was lucky enough to meet the Beatles in September, 1967 while they were filming Magical Mystery Tour at the former West Malling air field and at which time I obtained their autographs." On September 12, 1967, the Beatles arrived in Newquay to film scenes for their upcoming made-for-TV short-film Magical Mystery Tour. When the band needed to film various outdoor sequences, production was moved to the West Malling airfield in Kent, England. Their brief two-week production period is noted as being one of the last times the Beatles were openly accessible to the public, stopping at various countryside hotels and establishments throughout filming.
