Willy Wonka’s Everlasting Gobstopper
Willy Wonka’s Everlasting Gobstopper is a film prop from the 1971 Paramount film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
It is a notable item of film memorabilia.
Only two of these props are known to exist.
Role within the film
In the film, Charlie eventually wins the “Grand Prize” by handing the Everlasting Gobstopper back to Willy Wonka. The Gobstopper is viewed by many as a test of Charlie’s morality to see if he would succumb to Slugworth’s offer and steal one so that Slugworth could get the secret recipe.
In May 2011, one of the two known Everlasting Gobstopper props was sold at a Profiles in History auction. It sold for $48,875.
The prop retained some minor glue residue on the bottom, most likely from the conveyor belt scene in the film.
