Steve McQueen's racing jacket up for sale in Los Angeles
Steve McQueen's racing jacket and James Bond's tuxedo are amongst the notable outfits on offer in the latest Hollywood Legends sale at Julien's Auctions.
The auction's most valuable lot is a dinner suit worn on-screen by Daniel Craig in Spectre, his fourth big-screen outing as 007.
Designed by Tom Ford, the outfit comprises a white tuxedo jacket, black trousers, a white dress shirt, black bowtie and a red prop carnation.
Craig wears the suit during a scene in which he is attacked by Mr Hinx – although thankfully doesn't feature the wear and tear you'd expect after being thrown around a train by a trained assassin.
For film fans seeking the ultimate item of formal wear, this dinner suit comes with a price tag of $50,000 - $60,000.
Next up is a racing jacket worn by the King of Cool Steve McQueen, whose love of speed was legendary. "I am not sure if I am an actor who races or a racer who acts", McQueen once said in 1970, and his CV features impressive entries in both columns.
Not content with starring in classic movies such as Bullitt, The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair and Le Mans, McQueen also competed in more than 20 professional races, including an impressive second-place finish at the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring.
He wore the jacket offered at Julien's on the track at Ascot Park in 1969, and again in 1970 at the Winter Sprint at Phoenix International Raceway, during which he set a new lap record in his Porsche 908.
As a perfect piece of memorabilia from one of the 20th century's most iconic actors, the jacket is estimated at $40,000 - $60,000.
Further gentleman's screen-worn outfits on offer include shirts worn by both Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger in the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain; a red shirt worn by a (probably doomed) Starship Enterprise crew member in the original Star Trek TV series; and a black leather jacket worn by Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.
The Julien's Auctions Hollywood Legends sale takes place in Los Angeles on April 28.
