Sly Stallone memorabilia offered in blockbuster Heritage Auctions sale
Heritage Auctions has released details of its blockbuster sale featuring the memorabilia collection of Sylvester Stallone.
Leading the sale is the World Heavyweight Championship belt won by Rocky in Rocky II, then successfully defended against Mr T in Rocky III. As an iconic piece of sports movie memorabilia, the belt is expected to sell for in excess of $500,000.
"When I lifted this belt over my head and said, "Yo, Adrian, I did it!" I don't think I was more moved ever in my entire film career!" said Stallone.
"For Rocky it obviously meant the culmination of a life that had been lived in the shadows, in one of disappointment -- and finally he became the man he was meant to be. He did it through love and integrity and dedication -- but he also did it through just pure guts. He walked through a wall of fire. It's very Americana - how this country was founded through hard, hard work."
The auction also includes Stallone's gloves from the final bout of Rocky II, described by Sly as the "magic wands" from "the most extraordinary boxing fight I've ever seen", also estimated at $500,000+.
Other famous items from Stallone's career include the army jacket and machete from Rambo, the screen-worn football jersey from Escape to Victory, and costumes from Cliffhanger, Demolition Man and Judge Dredd amongst others.
Aside from memorabilia from his countless blockbuster movies, the auction also features personal items from the start of Stallone's acting career. Amongst the most notable lots is a vintage sheepskin-lined leather jacket, the first thing Stallone bought when he arrived in New York to pursue his dream.
He wore the jacket whilst he slept in Central Park and at the Port Authority Bus Station, and even whilst fending off attacks from packs of dogs on the streets, and it has remained in his collection ever since. "It's kinda like having a friend that went on a long journey with you," said Stallone. "There's a lot of history in that coat. Maybe it'll bring someone else luck, too."
Stallone: The Auction takes place at Heritage Auctions in Los Angeles on December 18-20.
