Julien's Auctions to sell the Patrick Swayze collection
Memorabilia from the estate of Hollywood star Patrick Swayze is heading for sale at Julien's Auctions later this year.
The company will kick off its 2017 season with the auction, which features movie props, costumes, personal memorabilia and vehicles from the former collection of the late actor.
Patrick Swayze began his career in the 1970s as a ballet dancer in New York, before performing on Broadway in West Side Story and landing the starring role of Danny Zuko in the musical Grease.
This success led his to Hollywood, and a series of roles including the action movie Red Heat and the epic Civil War TV mini-series North and South. In 1987 he found international stardom when he starred in Dirty Dancing, a worldwide hit which has become one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s.
Swayze became one of the most iconic actors of his era, appearing in the hit thrillers Road House and Point Break, along with Ghost – the smash hit romantic drama that earned him the first of three Golden Globe nominations, and took $200 million at the U.S box office.
He was voted the Sexiest Man Alive in 1991, and later played roles in cult classics such as To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar and Donnie Darko.
Patrick Swayze sadly passed away in 2009 at the age of just 57, after battling pancreatic cancer, and property from his estate will now be offered at auction for the first time.
Amongst the leading highlights from the sale are costumes and props from some of Swayze's biggest movies. These include his leather jacket from Dirty Dancing, estimated at $4,000 - $6,000; his shirt and shoes from Ghost, valued at $2,000 - $4,000; his Point Break wetsuit, estimated at $2,000-$4,000; and his Point Break surfboard, estimated at $4,000 - $6,000.
Notable personal items from Swayze's estate include his 1986 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle, which comes with an estimate of $8,000 - $10,000, his DeLorean automobile estimated at $30,000 - $50,000, and his High School athletic awards priced at $1,000 - $2,000.
Property from the Estate of Patrick Swayze takes place at Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles on April 28-29.
