Fonz's 1949 Triumph motorbike offered on eBay
A motorbike ridden by Henry Winkler in his role as The Fonz in popular American sitcom Happy Days is up for sale on eBay.
The 1949 Triumph Trophy 500 is on offer with an asking price of $100,000.
It was last sold for $87,500 at Bonhams New York in 2011.
As Bonhams explained in its original listing: “According to Ekins, there were actually three Triumphs, all 500cc Trophy models of various years, used on the show, two of which had indeed gone missing – stolen, raced into the ground or sold off for parts.
“But Ekins not only knew about the third and remaining Triumph, he had originally supplied it to Paramount Studios after yanking off the front fender, bolting on a set of buckhorn handlebars and painting the gas tank silver.
“The Fonz, after all, would not ride a stock motorcycle. Ekins also pointed the magazine writer north to Oakland where the sole remaining Fonzie bike had been since 1990, hiding in plain sight, stored unceremoniously at Mean Marshall's Motorcycles.”
The owner of the shop was more interested in the motorcycle than its TV association and had originally planned to restore it to its original state.
Winkler’s role was originally a small one, but the Fonz proved so popular that he became a main character.
After the show wrapped, the Smithsonian museum bought his iconic leather jacket and placed it on permanent display.
