Jim Clark's Jaguar D-Type Jaguar by Exoto
Today marks what would have been Jim Clark's 79th birthday and with that it's a good time to look at Exoto's recent release of his Shortnose D-Type Jaguar, in which he first cut his teeth in professional racing. Although Clark was from a farming family, he immediately showed promise as a racing driver and would go on to excel over a number of disciplines including Formula One, Touring Cars and even at the Indy 500.
The archetypal gentleman driver, Clark's innate ability to win in anything on four wheels soon made him a crowd favourite, with him taking the Formula One World Championship in both 1963 and 1965. This model of his D-Type, raced by Clark in 1958 is made to an excellent standard by Exoto and looks at a time in Jim Clark's life that is often overlooked, with the emphasis often resting on his time with Lotus.
The Jim Clark D-Type is for sale from Exoto's site for just under $900 making it significantly more expensive that the comparative Autoart Longnose D-Type, but once you look at the engine and cabin detail you can really see where that money's going!
