Your chance to own a piece of British cult classic film Withnail and I

Christie's is selling items of furniture from the movie which gave Richard E Grant his big break

Withnail and I has a legion of admirers.

The darkly comic depiction of two out of work British actors won the hearts of film-goers around the globe when it was released in 1987, and continues to entice a new generation to this day.

So Withnail and I fans, as well as movie memorabilia collectors and alternative investors will be excited to learn that Christie's is auctioning a range of furniture that featured in the film, on July 31.

The unique and highly collectible items feature in a sale of antique pieces from West House in Chelsea, London, which was used as Uncle Monty's townhouse in the film.

Among those antiques which appeared in the movie were a mid-19th century mahogany library table, valued at 3,000 to 5,000, and a portrait by a member of the Jonathan Richardson circle, which is expected to make up to 2,000.

Keep these items away from Richard E Grant and the lighter fluid

West House, which screams "shabby chic", was perfectly suited to depicting Uncle Monty's abode.

The house is owned by Professor Bernard Nevill, the former design director of London fashion store Liberty.

Other items from the film up for grabs include three Victorian pine library ladders valued at a combined 800, and a Victorian mahogany armchair, which is expected to make close to 1,200.

227 lots will be offered from West House in all, most of which never made it on to the big screen. The sale is expected to make around 200,000.

The Cumbrian farmhouse used as Uncle Monty's cottage in the film sold for 265,000 in 2009 - smashing the 145,000 estimate.
