Your chance to own a $15,000 Chinese carved jade mountain

A Chinese jade mountain is the star of Pook & Pook's upcoming auction in Pennsylvania

An intricately-carved Chinese jade mountain is among the most exciting lots at Pook & Pook's upcoming sale of around 300 Asian artworks.

The 10 by 13 inch piece, which is a fine example of its type, has an estimate of $10,000 to $15,000.

It is joined at the September 8 and 9 auction by a seven inch jade mountain valued at $8,000 to $10,000.

These highly decorative pieces can sell for large sums, especially at Hong Kong auctions, where competitive Chinese buyers push up the prices.

A Qianlong dynasty large jade mountain sold for $1.15m at a Sotheby's Hong Kong auction in October 2003, while a similar green jade offering achieved $1m in 2004.

A third carved jade item, featuring a depiction of the Buddhist goddess Guan Yin, will also feature at the auction, with a pre-sale estimate of $4,000 to $6,000.

Pook & Pook's two day sale in Pennsylvania will contain around 1,300 lots in all and include many fascinating items for collectors.

An interesting sideshow to the decorative art will be an unusual mid-20th century circus banner. The oil on canvas depicts a sword swallower known as the Great LaCardo.

It has an estimate of $4,000 to $6,000.

It is a good week for collectors of circus banners. Rago Arts is also offering a banner portraying no less than Taylor the Man of Mystery. It will be available at the auction house's New Jersey sale on September 10.
