Why I'm backing presidential memorabilia this election season...

Paul explores why presidential memorabilia is one of the strongest investments around

November 6 will see the next president of the United States of America elected into office.

Regardless of the outcome, I always look forward to the event as a time when some of the most important presidential memorabilia comes to auction.

Choosing the leader of one of the most powerful countries on the planet obviously attracts strong interest from across the globe, and this is reflected in the collectibles market. Prices for the top presidential items can rocket, with bids fuelled by election excitement.

And this happens every four years.

A number of collectibleswait on a memorable event of some sort to truly realise their full potential, but presidential memorabilia is refreshed in the minds of the public far more regularly. Four years comes around a lot faster thanwaiting for an important anniversary in a famous figure's life, increasingthe opportunity to sell your collectibles for a profit.

John F Kennedy election poster The iconic JFK is always popular at auction - this can be yours for just 4,000.

This election season has already seen some excellent sales, with the handwritten drafts of John F Kennedy's speech announcing his candidacy to become president selling 67.3% above the $25,000 estimate at $41,825. Even a replica of the Resolute Desk which resides in the Oval Office sold for $15,000 in an October 12 auction.

More impressive bidding is expected in the sale of ex-secretary of defence Robert McNamara's personal white house collection, which is valued at $800,000.

These sales, combined with the astonishing $9.8m auction of George Washington's Acts of Congressin June and the value of a JFK handwritten letter rising by 12.37% pa since 2000, are clear evidence that collectors are willing to pay top prices for items relating toAmerica's most memorable presidents.

The perennial popularity of this memorabilia means that I ensurewe always have a number of presidential items in stock to meet the constant demand. My personal favourites from our collection are the George Washington signed lottery ticket and our legendary "posthumous" JFK autograph.
