Wallis Simpson Cartier bracelet tops Sotheby's Fine Jewels sale

The sapphire bracelet, which previously belonged to Wallis Simpson, sold for $375,000

A sapphire Cartier bracelet owned by Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, sold for 230,500 ($375,138) at Sotheby'sFine Jewels auctionin Londonon December 12.

King Edward VIII famously abdicated in order to marry Simpson, an American socialite,as hisrole as the head of the Church of England did not allow him to marry a divorcee.

The couple went on to live a jet-setting lifestyle -travelling widely across the world.

We have this handwritten and signed letter from Wallis Simpsonfor sale, penned on her honeymoon with Edward in 1937.
