Vintage Saarinen Tables are original tables produced by the notable Finnish designer Eero Saarinen.

Brief history and description

Eero Saarinen was born on August 20th, 1910 and died on September 1st, 1961, and was the son of a textile artist (Loja Saarinen) and a famous architect and town planner (Eliel Saarinen). During the 1950s, Saarinen was hired to design various furniture items for Knoll, which helped make him a pioneer of the 20th century furniture design movement.

Saarinen first started designing tables in 1956, and his tables are believed to be the last of his furniture designs. Some of the many various Saarinen table designs include his round dining tables, oval dining tables, round side tables, round coffee tables, oval side tables and oval coffee tables.

Saarinen's tables are famously durable, and typically feature coated marble or granite tops with transparent polyester coating, cast iron bases, and can also come in a variety of different finishes such as wood, laminate, marble or granite.

Guide for collectors

Out of all of Saarinen's table designs, his oval dining tables are considered to be the most valuable, but not necessarily the most rare. Saarinen tables that come as a complete set with matching chairs are considered to be rare.

Restoration of a vintage Saarinen table is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring a table may decrease its value.
