Video of the week...The extraordinary life of Amelia Earhart

This week we turn our attention to a pioneering aviator and feminist icon

Amelia Earhart's pioneering spirit and bravery have left an enduring imprint on the history of aviation.

With a new exhibition at the Smithsonian getting ready to shed light on the woman behind the goggles, we thought we'd take a look at Earhart's legacy and how investing in it could bring you a soaring return.

Earhart's legendary status means the market for her memorabilia is particularly strong and popular with collectors across the globe.

The flight goggles she wore during her historic 1932 solo trans-Atlantic flight were sold at auction last year for an amazing $141,600, and scarf of Earhart's was taken into space in 1995 by Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot the space shuttle.

It was seen as a talisman, the passing of a torch from one pioneering female aviator to another.

More down-to-Earth items have proven equally sough-after. Her tragic disappearances in 1937 means items such as her autograph are rare and increasingly valuable.

A signed photo such as this onehas a priceof $5,191, and earlier this year a letter by her on the subject of trans-Atlantic flight sold for $3,125.

The details of her incredible life have already been recreated on the silver screen, and her story will always remain aninspiration. Our video of the week will give youa brief glimpse into a life that continues to echo to this day.
