Paul Fraser Collectibles,Sunday 19January 2014
A set of six unpublished autographed manuscript poems by Ted Hughes (1930-1998)are to auction at PBA Galleries in San Francisco on January 30.
Each of the six poems are autographed by Ted Hughes
The poems, which are selling as a single lot, will provide one of the highlights of the Beats, Counter Culture and Avant Garde sale - and are estimated to bring $7,000-10,000.
They date to the early 1970s and are named after various face cards (King of Clubs, Queen of Hearts etc), a concept Hughes repeated in the late 1980s when he produced the Full House series - although the themes and style of the works are entirely different.
They are sold in a presentation morocco-backed box along with a typed, signed letter by the poet.
Last April a portrait of Hughes sold for 7,500 ($11,500) at Bonhams London.
